Phylactery
Contents
Samaritan phylactery fragment
Language(s): Samaritan
ff. 1r-1vAuthor:Title: TefilinTitle: תפלין This fragment and Or 12379 A are probably part of the same document, with B being the missing columns of A, since the text round the outer rim of A carries on into B. The phylactery is incomplete, with damage to the left side.
The words 'Samarit. Shem', the latter being an abbreviation for Shem hamitfaresh, the ineffable name of God, are to be found in Gaster's Handlist (p.145). The text in fact appears to have been part of a phylactery now in two parts: Or 12379 A and 12379 B.
Or 12379A starts with a qataf of part of Deuteronomy 32. This is followed by Exodus 14:22-24. Or 12379 B continues the text found in Or 12379 A along its outer rim with a fragmentary text from Ex. 14:21.
