Inscription: pencilled inscription on mount reads: Geok Tepe, Sunday April 27th 1902 (24 Jany. 1881).
View showing ruined mud walls of the fort at Geok Tepe, with figures grouped around a recently erected memorial cross in the centre. The memorial must presumably commemorate Russian casualties in the Battle of Geok Tepe in January 1881, by which Russian control of Turmenistan was consolidated.
