An Ethiopian manuscript containing:
The first volume of a work entitled Mashafa Madbal, or, “Collection of the Mysteries of the Times," or , Mest'ra Zaman, “the Mystery of Time."
f.1r, Unfinished and uncoloured drawing of Annunciation of the blessed Virgin, in outline.
f. 1v. መጽሐፈ መድበል. ዘቅዱስ መድኃኔ ዓልም.
f. 2r. Begins with an introduction in prose, በስመ አብ ….ንዌጥን በረድኤት እግዚአብሔር ወንጽሕፍ መጽሐፈ መድበል ዘበትርጓሜሁ ጉባዔ ምሥጢራተ ዘመናት ዘገብረ እግዚአብሔር በበጊዜሁ ቅድመ በዘመነ ብሉይ እስከ ይመጽእ ዘመነ ሐዲስ, etc.
f. 3r. The work commences. The picture on this page represents the Holy Trinity, drawn and painted by one ሕዝቅኤል (Ezekiel).
f. 184v. The Old Testament, with its Apocrypha, ends on, where begins the ነገረ ማርያም “History of Mary."
f. 193r. The colophon, which has been much altered by erasure, gives us the name of king 'lyasii (II.), but that of Bakafta appears on the same page.Some of the pictures in this volume are only partly finalised; and many are merely in outline. In two cases, f, 192r, and v, the spaces have been left quite blank.
Decoration: This manuscript contains 376 illustrations, ff.1r-191v. (with uncoloured drawing ff.25v-187r. Some of the depictions are partly finished and many are outlined, f.192r and v, spaces have been left blank.)
