The name of the author is given in acrostics on fol. 2r, written by a later hand.

On fol. 192v: the words of the author’s nephew from the year תקמ"ט (in 1788/9), mentioning his uncle as deceased and as "first and foremost" among the חבורת זריזים (Havurat Zerizim), and a poem he wrote about the author.

4 blank leaves between fols. 191 and 192 are not included into the Arabic foliation, only into the Hebrew foliation.

Provenance and Acquisition

Ownership inscriptions: "אני מרדכי גואסטאלה" (fol. 1v); "זה ספר אבנים יקרות שלהם בנים מ"ה ר"ב"ג יצו בטורינו" (fol. 1r).

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 442: inscribed with his name on fols. 1r, 192v; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924: inscribed on back flyleaf (ii)v; date of accession 28 March 1928: inscribed on fol. 192v.
