An album containing 169 specimens of calligraphy by Japanese historical figures ranging from the 8th to early17th centuries, beginning with Empress Kōmyō 光明皇后 (701-760). Many of the specimens bear the official appraisal stamp 'Kinzan 琴山'.
The album itself is undated but was probably put together in the mid-19th century.

Format: Folding album with 25 leaves. Each leaf has one or more specimens of calligraphy accompanied in almost all cases by a slip indicating the name of the calligrapher.
Material: Ink on paper. The album is made of thick paper which has been treated with mica. Endpapers decorated with gold/silver flakes.
Dimensions: 408 x 258 mm.
Binding: Blue brocade cover with a motif of chrysanthemums and foliage.
