The MS is described variously in each of the catalogues because of the ambiguity of the rubric. The best description is that in the MS, fol. 8r in Samaritan script: 'Prayers for the day of the festival of Shemini Atseret' (cf. Crown).

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 853: inscribed with his name on fol. 1r; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 28 March 1930: inscribed on fol. 85v.
