All the cataloguers before Allony and Loewinger attributed the work to Meir ben Anshel. Allony and Loewinger in their handlist, gave the name of the author as Meir ben Samuel. Mainly in Yiddish, with large sections of both text and commentary in Hebrew.

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 513; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924: inscribed on back flyleaf (ii)v: inscribed with his name on fol. 92v; date of accession 8 April 1929.
