- Scope & Content:
- This collection of prints were produced by R.Dasen Studio (Karaikudi Branch). The prints were collected from junk yards and second markets mainly in Karaikudi, Madurai and Pondichery and are now preserved in the French Institute. The premises of the studio were found in Karaikudi and the widow (Ladha) of the studio owner was met. From her, we know that the Karaikudi branch of R. Dasen Studio was opened in 1947 by her father-in-law and finally closed down in 2008. R.Dasen Studio's head office was located in Madras and had branches in other localities in Tamil Nadu. Digitisation of the remaining archive belonging to the family is scheduled in the event of a major project. The extent of the studio archive is yet unknown but appears according to the description of the widow, quite extensive. Date of original material: Only one print contains a handwritten date on the photo mount: 05/04/1941. Format of original material: Black and white photographic print pasted on cardboard mount.
