According to George Margoliouth, Catalogue of the Hebrew and Samaritan Manuscripts in the British Museum, no. 81, the following Latin description was written on the back of the front cover, which is no longer extant: ‘Pentateuchus membranaceus in fol. minori cujus versibus singulis subjicitur Targum Onkelos. item quinque Megilloth et Haphtaroth absque Massora. Scriptionis Annus frustra quaeritur; videtur tamen Codex antiquus.’

27 quires of mostly 8 leaves.
Some quires marked with catchwords on the last page.
Condition
Several folios are stained.

Leviticus, Esther, Song of Songs and Hafṭarot commence a new leaf.
Initial words of each book written in larger letters.
Masoretic calculations at the end of Genesis and Leviticus.
No Masorah magna or parva, although the ruling for both of them is provided.
Visible pricking and ruling with sharp object on the hair-side of folios.

Ashkenazi square script of the 14th centiry.
f. 1, 8 - these two folios are written in a later hand.
Additions:A standard scribal formula occurs at the end of Exodus (folio 82v) and Leviticus (folio 108v): ‘חזק ונתחזק’.

History
Origin: 14th century ; Germany?Provenance and Acquisition
Adam Clarke (b. 1762, d. 1832), Wesleyan Methodist minister and scholar. This codex, together with nine other manuscripts (Add MS 9398-9407) was acquired by the British Museum in 1834, once the property of the Hagen family and then of Adam Clarke.
