Ashkenazi square script of the 15th century. Partially punctuated (punctuation probably has been added later).
Decoration
Decorated chapter numbers in Psalms and instructions in the margins, in red ink (ff. 33r-35r, 39v, 46r-49v, 68r-68v, 75v-76r, 129r-130r, 152v-153r).
Numerous initial-word panels with penwork decoration, pen-flourishing sometimes inhabited by birds and dragon heads, in colours (e.g. ff. 1r, 4r, 19r, 58v, 62v, 216v)
1 marginal illustration of a shofar, damaged, in red ink (f. 69v).
Decorated cathwords.
Some of the decoration had been trimmed off when rebound.
Added frame decorated with floral motifs for the opening of the codex but left empty, in ink (front flyleaf (iii)r).

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 5: inscribed with his name on f. 220v; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 5 July 1927.
