Provenance and Acquisition

Purchase note dated [5]538 AM (1777/8 CE) on front flyleaf (i)r: קניתי מעשה קונטרס בעד י"ב ליטרין וא' ליטר' לנייר וד' ליטרין לכסותו אח(?) הקטן בלא"א הרשב"א נ"ר ירח סיון תקל"ח לפ"ק ונעשה ע"י כמה"ר יודא מודינא בירח אייר שנת תקל"ז לפ"ק.

Giuseppe Almanzi (b. 1801, d. 1860), bibliophile; his manuscript no. 83: his library including 322 medieval Hebrew manuscripts were purchased en bloc by the British Museum in October 1865 for £1,000 through Asher & Co., Berlin dealer to the British Museum (see [Paisey_1997] 131-153): inscribed, back flyleaf (iv)v.
