Commentary by ‘Alī ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Qāsim ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dādasī (علي بن محمد بن أبي القاسم بن إبراهيم الدادسي, d. 1683) on his own didactic poem on astronomical timekeeping, Bidāyat al-ṭullāb fī ‘ilm waqt al-yawm bi-al-ḥisāb (بداية الطلاب في علم وقت بالحساب, The Students' Beginning in the Science of the Time of Day by Means of Calculation). The lemmata commented upon are indicated by the letter 'm' (م), an abbreviation of matn (متن, 'text'), and the commentary is indicated by the letter 'sh' (ش), an abbreviation of sharḥ (شرح, 'commentary').
The poem commented upon was composed in Ramaḍān 1047/January-February 1638 (see author's colophon of poem, f. 56r, lines 22-23, transcribed below), and the commentary was composed at the Subāḥīyah Madrasa in Fez on Tuesday 24 Dhū al-Qa‘dah 1048/29 March 1639 (see author's colophon of commentary, f. 56v, lines 3-4, transcribed below).
The copy was completed on 16 Ramaḍān 1057/15 October 1647 by ‘Abd al-Salām ibn ‘Alī ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Jamū‘ (عبد السلام بن علي بن أحمد بن محمد بن جموع, see scribe's colophon, f. 56v, lines 78 and lines to right of scribe's colophon, transcribed below).
Each leaf of the paper used for the manuscript is formed of two leaves pasted together. In some cases the laminated leaves are becoming or have already become detached, which has resulted in some blank openings (see the unfoliated openings between f. 5r and 5v [now ff. 5v and 5a-r] and bewteen f. 46r and 46v [now ff. 46v and 46a-r], and ff. 51v-16r, 20v-21r, 28v-29r, 33v-34r, 51v-52r). Into one such opening a later hand has copied a short text entitled The Story of the Five Apples Which Descended [from Heaven] and Were the Gift of Gabriel - upon whom be peace - to the Prophet - the prayers and peace of God be upon him (قصة التفافيح الخمسة التي نزل فهي هدية جبريل عليه السلام على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم, ff. 38v-39r).

أجمعين وبعد فهذا تقييد (؟) سميته اتحاف ذوي الألباب في شرح
