Judeo-Persian commentaries (fragments)
Contents
Fragments of Judeo-Persian commentaries on verses from the Pentateuch and some other biblical books.
Language(s): Hebrew, Persian
ff. 1r-123vTitle: PerushimTitle: פרושיםBased on their content and linguistic and paleographic features, these manuscripts are datable to the 11th-12th centuries, and not to the 16th century or later as suggested by Margoliouth (information provided by Ofir Haim).
So far, it has not been possible to determine the identity of the authors of these manuscripts and/or the place of their composition or copying. However, it is quite possible to assume that the authors were Karaite since Hebrew Karaite terms (e.g. רועי גלות, משכילים etc.) are attested in these texts. Another interesting feature of these texts is their affinity to the commentaries of the Karaite Yefet ben 'Eli. (Information provided by Ofir Haim).
