Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, formerly bound in 1 volume western style with Or.75.g.23(2), Or.75.g.23(3) and Or.75.g.23(4). ff.16. 18.9 x 13.8 cm. Fukurotoji.
Blockprint. Printing frame 16.8 x 12.7 cm (average). Single-line borders.
Hiragana-majiri text, with dakuten but no furigana. Text densely printed in shirami-bon style. 17 lines to page, variable number of characters per line.
Covers early but not original., colour-printed with a lozenge design in yellow and pink-tinged mica, over which the original title slip has been pasted. Title slip reads: Echigo no kuni / Kashiwazaki / Kōchi hōin godenki / Edo Magoshirō shōhon / Ōdenma / 3-chōme. 越後國 / 柏崎 / 弘知法印御博記 / 江戸孫四郎正本 / 大傳馬 / 三町目. "Echigo no kuni Kashiwazaki 越後國 柏崎" in tsunogaki.

Illustrations: Six black and white illustrations (double-page), on ff 1v-2r, 3v-4r, 6v-7r, 9v-10r, 12v-13r, 15v-16r.
Script: Text in kanji and hiragana with reading marks.
Binding: On double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Early (but not original) covers colour-printed (or stencilled) with a lozenge design in yellow and pink-tinged mica.
Condition: Good, with only slight foxing on fol. 1a.
Seals of ownership: Octagonal British Museum stamp, MVSEVM BRITANNICVM, on mikaeshi and inner back cover.
Manuscript notes: romanised transcription, Kootsi Foin, on fol. 1a, and names of personages above illustration on ff. 12b-13a, all in the hand of Kaempfer. Later note on mikaeshi: A Chinese Story Book Examined by Chetqua, Decr. 17. 1770.
