"Se tu non lasci Amore", by George Frideric Handel, for two soprano voices, bass voice and continuo. HWV 201a. Autograph score. In ink on paper ruled with 8 staves. Four gatherings, loosely bound with string. Title on score "Terzetto". Together with an autograph letter from King George III to Mrs Delaney or Delany of Park Place, St James, sister of Bernard Granville. Also with an engraved portrait of Handel.
- f. i. Engraved half-length portrait by Georges Frederic Schmidt, depicting Handel surrounded by decorative stonework framing an opening in a wall; on the sill in front of him is a manuscript score. Below are the following inscriptions: "Georges Frederic Schmidt sculp. a Paris". "Georges Frederic Handel Seul Compositeur et Directeur General de l'Opera de Londres Ne'en Saxe". "Ici graces aux doctes veilles D'un Artiste Laborieux. Ce lui qui fait par tout le Charme des Oreilles Fait aussi le plaisir des yeux".
- f. ii. Letter from King George III to Mrs Delaney or Delany, thanking her for borrowing the score of "Se tu non lasci Amore" from her nephew for him. "The King…therefore returns the three scores the two other books that accompanied them, as also the terzetto in the unrivalled author's own handwriting…" Signed and dated, "George R. Queens House Feby. 11th 1785". Autograph.
- f. iii. Unfolded envelope with the King's seal.
- ff. 1-10r. "Se tu non lasci Amore" continuing for 86 bars.
- f. 10r. "Mà con chi parlo oh Dio!" continuing for 6 bars.
- ff. 10v-15r. "Quando non ho piu" continuing for 112 bars to the end. Signed and dated on f. 15r: "G.F. Hendel. li 12 di luglio 1708. Napoli".
- ff. 15v-16r. Ruled but otherwise blank, apart from clefs and key signature added to f. 16r. Paste marks at the four corners of f. 15r suggest that another sheet of paper was formerly attached here.
- f. 16v. Note in the hand of former owner Bernard Granville: "This original is of Mr G.F. Handells own hand writing given by him to Mr Bernard Granville, + is the only copy extant, as Mr Handel told him when he gave it to him, as an addition to his collection of musick…"
