Zubdat al-ṭibb
Jurjānī, Ismāʿīl ibn Ḥasan
- Scope & Content:
-
Medical compendium by Zayn al-Dīn Abū Ibrāhīm Ismā‘īl ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥusaynī al-Jurjānī (زين الدين أبو إبراهيم إسماعيل بن محمد الحسيني الجرجاني, d. 1136). He is also known as Ismā‘īl ibn al-Ḥasan (إسماعيل بن الحسن) or ibn al-Ḥusayn (بن الحسين). The work is dedicated to the Khwārizm Shāh ‘Alā’ al-Dīn Qizil Arslān Atsiz ibn Muḥammad 1127-56; see f. 2r, lines 10-12).
The text is said in the preface (ff. 1v, line 24 ult.-2r, line 1) to be divided into two sections (جزءان): the Theoretical Section (الجزء العلمي) and the Practical Section (الجزء العملي). The Theoretical Section is divided into nine treatises (مقالة) further subdivided into chapters (أبواب), and a list of these treatises is found at the head of f. 2v.
It is unclear how the text is to be divided into the two section mentioned in the preface, but major divisions in the text can be found at the following folios: 60r, 95v, 121v, 230v, 244v, and 248v.
There is a blank, unfoliated leaf between ff. 94 and 95. F. 99 was accidentally marked 96.
Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-4):
Ends (f. 258r, lines 16-19):
Colophon (f. 258r, lines 20-21):
