English note on back pastedown: '"The Branch of David": An original autograph manuscript written in Judaeo-Persian. on 374 pages, 12 lines to a page, gilt-edge, 11 3/4 in. by 9 1/2 in., bound in olive green morocco, with gold standard floral decorations. Entirely prepared to be published in a facsimile edition. Contents: The result of forty years of Biblical study, and research work, with many passages from the Bible, and restatement of certain ritual truths, so that they might find deeper root in the writer's mind and heart, as well as in those of others. "Deep calleth unto deep!" Y. Dawud.'
Yuhanna Dawud, known as Yohanan ben David in Hebrew and John David in English; a traditional Jew from a religious background; collected Persian works of art and Islamic treasures from his boyhood; Professor of Oriental Art and Literature; oriental translator; Curator of the Department of Islamic Art, British Museum; died London, 1969.

Decoration
2 full-page decorations: f. 1v: the name of the author in golden letters with a menorah and a magen David in gold on top; f. 2r: the title of the book, the word 'Amen', and Ps. 51:17 in golden letters, and a golden magen David.
F. 188v: at the end of the work, Ps. 16:8 in golden letters and a dove holding a branch in its beak.

Post-1600, green leather binding, gold-tooled. With gilt edges and textile pastedowns.
