Papyrus fragment of a list
Contents
Language(s): Jewish Babalonia Aramaic
ff. 1r-1vTitle: Fragment of a listList is in Hebrew script but not in Hebrew language. According to recent research, it is not in Latin or Greek either (unpublished results of a workshop organized by Platinum, Naples).
The last three lines are a colophon in Aramaic naming Saul ben Eleazar as the scribe.
In its present state the fragment consists of two pieces: a smaller on the left and a larger on the right. The position of these two pieces has changed over time. Photographs of the fragment have been published in Leveen’s article of 1923, in Birnbaum’s book of 1971 and in Colette Sirat’s book in her book published in 1985, and in all these images, the smaller left piece is place to the lower part of the right piece. This was the correct reconstruction of the relation of the two pieces: the lines of the papyrus fibres match, and the three lines on the smaller piece are perfect continuation of the last three lines in the larger piece. These three lines constitute the colophon.
Verso side is blank.
In Hirschfeld's publication, this fragment is not mentioned, and 'Fragment C' refers to Fragment E (Or 9180 E). In Leveen's article, the captions of the two illusrations are swaped.
Kept with four other fragments: [BL] Or 9180 A, [BL] Or 9180 B, [BL] Or 9180 D, [BL] Or 9180 E.
