Incomplete at the beginning and at the end.

Indeterminable, but catchwords show that some leaves are misbound (e.g. catchword on f. 12 does not tally f. 13, same on ff. 35-36 and 36-37, etc.).

Liquid damage, mould, parts of the text are faded and illegible.

Rodent damage, worm damage, usage stains.

Iron gall ink corrosion.

Accompanying Material

Two small fragments of printed leaves have been found in the codex: a small fragment, probably from a printed bible between ff. 15 and 16; a larger fragment with from a prayer book(?) between ff. 20 and 21. These fragments are now encapsulated with melinex (they are not displayed in the digital surrogate).

Provenance and Acquisition

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 773; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 23 December 1929.
