Ff. 2r-15v: poems which are based on Pirḳe Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), among them are poems by Mosheh ben Shem Tov Ibn Habib (ff. 2r-15v, 35v-37r),

Ff. 16r- : The will of Rabbi Yitsḥaḳ Tzarfati which contains charms and lots of divination, "received by Rabbi Peretz ben Yitzehak Barceloni" (f. 20r), by the kabbalist "Yaʿaḳov of Jerusalem" (f. 23v), by Rabbi Menahem Hazan of London (f. 29v), amulet of protection (שמירה) sent by Nahmanides to Kushtantina (f. 30r), recipe for "preparing fine ink" (לעשות דיו טוב; f. 38v).

Collation

Ff. 1-6 and 34-39 constitute a quire of 12 leaves, and in the middle of this quire there are two other quires: ff. 7-25 (10-1 leaves) and ff. 26-33 (8 leaves).

Catchword on a few versos.

Condition

Usage stains, iron gall ink corrosion.

A leaf has been cut off between f. 14 and 15, only the stub is visible.

Italian Hebrew cursive script and Latin (Italian) cursive script of the 16th-17th century.

Provenance and Acquisition

M. Gaster's note regarding the date of his acquisition of the manuscript on f. 39v: 'v.901'.

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 462; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 26 July 1928.
