At the beginning of the manuscript, on f. 3r there is an introduction written by the copyist: אליך קורא ידיד כי הספר הזה העתקתי אותו כמה פעמים ובכל פעם חזרתי על הכתוב למען לא יצא מידי דבר שאינו מתוקן הן בשמות הן בנקודות ומידי עברי מעיר בונה מצאתי את שאהבה נפשי ועמדנו עליו בעיון רב אך שמענה ואתה דע לך כי בדברים אלו העיקר הוא הטהרה והפרישות ולהבדל מהבלי העולם ועניניו לכן השמר אל תפן אל און וה' ישמרך מכל רע ישמר את נפשך אכי"ר.
