Summary of Contents: A collection of letters and documents mostly originating from the Jewish community of Hagenau in Alsace, dated between 1710 and 1842.Language(s): Hebrew, Yiddish
ff. 1v-59vTitle: אגרות, תעודות ושטרות בית דין מקהלת הגינויא ואליהTitle: Igrot, Teʿudot u-sheṭarot bet din mi-ḳehilat Hagenoy ṿe-elehaMost of the documents concern marriage and divorce, but there are also communal decisions and reports.
Includes also an English business letter addressed to Mr. Kalish of Ipswich dated 1846 (ff. 8-9); notes on Genesis 1-2 (f. 12); a letter from Jacob(?) Arnheim to Abraham Cohen concerning the binding of Arnheim's books (f. 13); deliberations in Yiddish of the administrative committee of the Jewish congregation at Hagenau, dated 22 March 1840 a financial transaction involving Samuel Hilman, rabbi at Mannheim, dated 5509 (1748/9) (ff. 28-29).

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 1223; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 17 December 1931.
