A volume containing collected discourses and sermons of Reverend Peter Sterry (1613-1672), Chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, which are drawn into 55 paragraphs. The discourses focus on different parts of the scripture, namely:
- Matthew 4:4 (wrongly described as coming from the third chapter of Matthew)
- Proverbs 2:5
- Psalms 16:8
- Ephesians 1:11
- Psalms 4:8
- Romans 14:17
- 1 John 1:5
- Ephesians 5:13
- Revelation 2:4
- Luke 12:50
- Romans 6:3-4
- Psalms 4:6-7
- Matthew 5:8
Included at the end of the text is a table of scriptures referenced and the folio numbers of the relevant discourses.
On the inside cover is inscribed in pen ‘Rowland Crisp formerly of Chatham Deceased His Book’ and ’16 Septr 27 Mrs Jones Mr Crisps Daughter Lent this back to me’.
Underneath are some more inscriptions in a different hand. In pencil is inscribed ‘See folio 228’, which is circled. Also inscribed by the same hand in pen is ‘Revd. Peter Sterry A.D.1650’ followed by ‘1650’ written in pencil.
Underneath, in a third hand, is inscribed ‘J. Bradshaw St Albans AD 1700’ in pencil.
Also included with this volume is an old paper cover of the volume.

- The descendants of John Bradshaw[e], (the first signatory on the Death Warrant of Charles 1st) passed down The Sermons of the Rev. Peter Sterry from generation to generation, some with much pride in and some with much shame in their Republican ancestry, but all with an acute awareness of the profound impact which religious beliefs of that time had on both sides in the conflict, not least on Oliver Cromwell, in producing some good and a great deal of bad.

- On 21st June 2016 Hazel Kay McGrath formerly Bradshawe and youngest daughter of John Frederick Bradshaw gifted the book of hand written Sermons dated 1674, to the British Library to ensure its safe keeping and availability to the nation for research purposes.
