A collection of eulogies and copies or drafts of tombstone inscriptions, and ethical writings. Mostly in Hebrew, but some notes also in Italian (e.g. ff. 17v, 18v).

Ff. 9r-10r: in Aramaic.

Note in Italian on f. 11v: 'Giovine pastore che guida propria la gregge'.

The year 1835 is mentioned in several places: פה רוויגו ט' לחדש טבת שנת התקל"ה לב"ה (e.g. f. 13v); 'il giorn il 15.Maggio 1835' (f. 15v).

Provenance and Acquisition

Draft of a tombstone inscription on a small paper slip glued onto a modern flyleaf, now called f. 33r: פה שוכב משה חי בר שמשון פארינצו שנפטר והלך לבית עולמו ביום ...(ה' לחדש תשרי שנת תקפ"ט) ונקבר ביום ... תנצב"ה.

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 408; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924; date of accession 20 March 1928.
