ff. 2r-8vTitle: בטול עקרי הנוצריםTitle: Biṭul ʿiḳare ha-NotsrimA refutation of the principles of the Christians composed by Ḥasdai Crescas in Catalan in 1397-1398. The work was translated by Joseph ben Shem Tov with additions by the translator inserted into the text.
Copied for Solomon Halberstam from a manuscript formerly in the library of the Jüdisch-Theologisches Seminar of Wrocław (Breslau), MS 59. This manuscript was stolen by the Nazis during WWII and has disappeared. The text of the Breslau manuscript was preserved only in this copy and in one prepared by Z. Poznanski in the Jewish National Library in Jerusalem, MS oct. 760.
Note by Solomon Halberstam(?) on f. 1r: כ"י זה העתיק ידידי החכם ד"ר לעווין נ"י רב בעיר קאשמין מתוך כ"י 59 של הסעמינאר בברעסלויא ושלחו לי בתחילת חודש אדר ראשון תרל"ה.

Origin: 1874-1875Provenance and Acquisition
Solomon Hayyim Halberstam (1832-1900): bibliophile and scholar: belong to his library (see Ha no. 362 on the spine and on the front pastedown). Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885): belonged to his library; see black oval stamp from Ramsgate, dated 1866/7 on ff. 1v, 8v and back flyleaf (i)r: "בק"ק ראמסגט יע"א התרכז לברי"ע ".
Acquired in 2004 from the Montefiore Endowment via Sotheby's.
