Latin manuscript notes of Francis Henderson (b. 1652?) from lectures on physics given by 'Jacobus Rymerus' ('James Rymer', or 'Rymour'?), a professor of philosophy at St Salvator's College at the University of St Andrews, between 1672 and 1673. The lectures appear to have taken place at St Salvator's College, which is referred to at p. 103.
Subjects include: 'Synopsis physicae gineralis', on the origins, nature and composition of matter; infinity and motion. 'Synopsis physicae specialis', on the earth, sky and elements. Extracts from a 'Compendium Cosmographicum' on the planets, earth, meteors, the wind and water, including 3 diagrams comparing an old style planetary system with those of Copernicus and Tycho Brahe (pp. 143-4).'Synopsis doctrinae de ortu et interitu', on birth and death. 'Synopsis doctrinae de anima', on the soul.
Also includes: a diagram of the Tree of Porphyry; notes on the Henderson family; some notes in English, including an introduction to a text entitled 'Of Hope'; and various ownership inscriptions.
