Compiled from Bale, Pits, Fuller, Wood, Lloyd, Walker, etc. by Morris Drake Morris of Mount Morris in Kent, Esquire and Fellow Commoner of Trinity College Cambridge. Volume 1 of 3.
This volume comprehends the Lives of Eminent men from AD 636 to the reign of Charles I [1625-1649], ending with Sir Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford. (pages 1-503).
This volume was given to Mr. Cole by Dr. Conyers Middleton in 1748/1749. Of that portion which contains Mr. Drake Morris’s ‘Athenæ’, a fair copy exists in his own handwriting, among the Harleian manuscripts 7176 and 7177. This volume contains an Alphabetical index in Mr. Morris’s writing and also Mr. Cole’s.
