Mr. Cole has inserted remarks throughout, and at the commencement prefixed the Arms emblazoned of Cardinal Wolsey and some account of the Manuscript. (pages 2-3). He has also added an index of names at the end. (page 184-187).
At pages 57-59, Mr. Cole has inserted Copies of a note from Mr. Gray to Dr. Farmer. Dated Pembroke Hall, 12 April, returning him thanks for the loan of his manuscript relative to Wolsey, accompanied by remarks on the characters of Dr. Farmer and Mr. Gray, also a letter from Alexander Pope to the Reverend Mr. Broome, Dated 29 August 1730, concerning the death of Mr. Fenton. .

Transcribed from a manuscript belonging to Sir John Stanley of Aldersley, lent to Mr. Cole by the Reverend John Allen of Toporley. The title of the poem in the manuscript is ‘The Honour of Chester and Lancashier, containing the Legend of the right honorable House of Stanleies, Earles of Derby. Written at first by the Right Reverend James [Thomas] Stanley, then Bishop of Man, and now renewed by an old Servant of the same coate and Family’. Prefixed is some account of the manuscript and a short Pedigree of the Stanley’s, with their Arms in trick. (pages 323-386). See Cole’s Vol. XXIX page 104 for the original poem by Bishop Stanley.
