- Title:
- History of the Townships of Cheshire, stated to have been compiled by Dr. Williamson
- Scope & Content:
-
A folio volume (180 folios), in which are collections, alphabetically arranged, for the History of the Townships of Cheshire, stated to have been compiled by Dr. Williamson, a physician of Chester (in 1701), from the Manuscripts of Randal Holmes and others.
It is often cited by Lysons in his ‘Magna Britannia’ under the title of ‘Villare Cestrinse’.
The manuscript is written in two different hands, and in the second portion (folios 165-173b) is inserted a large genealogical account of the several branches of the families of Venables and Vernon, ‘A Stemmate Baronis de Kinderton, ex industria Sampsonis Erdswick de London Arm.’, and a copy of the Grant of Arms from Lawrence Dalton, Norroy King of Arms, to Thomas Venables of Golburne, Gentleman. Dated 2 November 1560. (folio 172).
A few notes are added in different parts of the volume by a very recent hand (Mr. Orme of Chester?).
