Second of two volumes [with 6263] quarto of 306 folios, containing the original corrected copies of Professor Ward’s “System Oratory”, publicly delivered in fifty-four lectures, at Gresham College. The number of Lectures was designed by the Professor to be fifty-six, but two (viz.xLvi. “of Panegyric and its Stile”, and Lvi. “of Taste”) were not written at the period of his death.
Some memoranda for the two lectures omitted, On Panegyrie, and Taste: and an “Introductory Discourse from the Mangural Oration”.
These lectures were published under the case of Dr Birch, in two volumes, 8o[Octavo] London, 1759, but instead of the above “Introductory Discourse” is introduced in the edition the Latin Inaugural Oration of Professor Ward, when first elected Professor of Rhetoric at Gresham College.
