A folio volume (48 folios), containing a copy of the statutes of the Garter in England, as reformed by Henry VIII, with an appendix of the constitutions belonging to the Officers of the Order. The whole in the handwriting of Dr. Matthew Wren, Bishop of Ely, and Register of the Order, who has added remarks throughout, pointing out the alterations in the statutes before and since, and Prolegomena respecting the manuscripts copies of the statutes and history (or register) of the Order of the Garter.
A quotation from Ashmole’s ‘History of the Garter’ page 193, is added by a later hand on the last leaf, from which we learn that Dr. Wren compiled the manuscript about the year 1631. It subsequently belonged to [John?] Anstis, who has added titles of Heads to each of the chapters of the statutes. It came into Mrs. Banks’s possession in 1809.
