The 18th of 19 volumes which comprise the Collections towards a History of Sussex made by the Reverend William Hayley, Rector of Brightling, and form an excellent supplement to Sir William Burrell’s collection for the same county.
A thin quarto volume (49 folios), in Mr. Hayley’s handwriting, containing the following papers:
1. Remarks on the monument of Gundreda, daughter of King William the Conqueror [William I], in Lower Church. (folios 1-2b) (See Add MS 6361 folios 32,42)
2. Extract from Domesday Book, relating to the property of William de Warren, in the counties of Suffolk, Essex, and Norfolk. (folios 3-5b)
3. Tabular arrangement of the Domesday Survey of lands in the county of Sussex. (folios 6-16)
4. Memorandum of the lands held by Goda Comitissa. (folio 16b)
5. Note of the distances from one town to another in Sussex, taken from Budgen’s map, the ‘Magna Brittania’, and Adam’s ‘Villaris’. (folio 17)
6. Biographical Extracts from the ‘General Dictionary Historical and Critical, by Reverend P. Bernard, Dr. Birch, etc.’ fol. 1734-1741. (folios 18-47)
7. Memoranda relating to the monuments of various Royal personages, from Sandford, and list of books from the ‘General Dictionary’, etc. (folios 48-49b)
