A folio volume (69 folios), containing miscellaneous papers, viz.
1. ‘A true Terrer of the Mannor of Middleton Stoney [Oxfordshire] take out (verbatim) of an old terrer made in the tyme of King Philip and Queen Marie [1554-1555] which is in the hands of John Laud, one of the tenanntes this presente yeare, 1629’.Prefixed, and on the margins are notes respecting the tenants in occupation in the year when the copy was made, 1629. At the end are also added some notes ‘taken out of William Hide’s Terrer-booke’, 1658. (folios 1-37)
2. An astrological calculation of Lord Chancellor Hyde’s Horoscope, taken from his birth, 18 February 1609. The date is not added, but it must have been drawn up previous to 1673. On an envelope is written ‘To Her Grace the Duchess of Queensbury’, and a later hand has added ‘Papers of the Lord Chancellor’s, taken out of the Escritoire in the Back room at London’. (folios 38-40)
3. Illustrissimi Comitis Clarendonis, magni quondam Angliæ Cancellarii, Vitæ et Mortis Synopsis Historico Medica. Scribebat Joannes Baptistæ Porræus, Sereniss M. Brit Regis Medicus Rothomagi, Kal. Jan. anno 1675. (folios 42-47b)On a fly leaf at the end is written ‘Dr. Pore’s account of my Father’s sicknesse’.
4. Original letter from the Lords of the Privy Council to Laurence, Earl of Rochester, announcing the birth of the son of King James II. Dated Whitehall, 10 June 1688. (folio 51, 52)
5. An ode in imitation of ‘Quid bellicosus Cantaber.’ Hor. Lib. ii. (folio 53)
6. ‘Alexander Pope his safe return from Troy; a congratulatory Poem on his compleating his Translation of Homer’s Ilias [Iliad], in the manor of the beginning of the last Canto of Aristo’.
The original draft by John Gay, with curious alterations and corrections, very much differing from the printed copies, but not complete, extending only to the 11th stanza, together with the 14th. (folios 54b-56b)
7. The story of Zerbia and Isabella, from Aristo, Canto 24 to the 28th and 29th (original draft). (folios 57-62b)
8. The story of Firdispina, from the 25th book of Aristo (original draft). (folios 63-67).As these last articles are in the same hand writing, they all must be ascribed to John Gay, although not included in his works.
9. ‘The estemate of His Exelencyes the Lord Embassendors Hyds Livery, made October 1677. (folios 68, 69)
