A quarto volume (83 folios), [marked Vol. IX] containing original letters to and from Bishop Chandler on various subjects, for the most part, connected with Ecclesiastical rites and Discipline, with other miscellaneous papers.

1. Letter from Timothy Jocks of Welshampton near Ellesmere, Shropshire, to the Bishop; complaining of Mr. Deane, incumbent of the Parish, that he had refused to bury Mr. Jock’s child on the ground that it had been baptised by a non-conformist minister. Dated Welsh Hampton, 2 April 1719. On the back is written the rough draft of the Bishop’s reply, and letter to Mr. Deane in shorthand. (folios 1-2b)

2. Fair copy of the Bishop’s reply, in his own handwriting, and copy of his Lordship’s letter to Mr. Deane, on the same subject, in another hand. (folios 3-4b)

14. Letter from Mr. Higgins Harris to the Bishop, requesting advice on the propriety of re-baptising a person already baptised by a Presbyterian preacher. Dated Burton upon Trent, 5 August 1728. (folios 38-39)

16. Letter from J. Laurence to the Bishop, begging the Bishop’s instructions on the cases in which a clergyman might refuse to administer Baptism privately. Dated 24 August 1731. On the back are some memoranda in short hand by the Bishop. (folios 41-42)
