Transcript of Remarks made in answer to the 6th and 7th Questions addressed to the overseers in England and to the Schoolmasters in Scotland [preparatory to the Population Act of 1811], viz.
‘6th. Referring to the number of Persons in 1801, to what cause do you attribute any remarkable difference in the number at present?’
‘7th. Are there any other matters, which you may think it necessary to remark, in explanation of your answers to any of the preceding Questions in the Schedule?’
Prefixed [to this volume and to accompanying volume Add MS 6896] is the following Memorandum: ‘Fair copies of this MS volume are deposited at the Parliament Office in Abingdon St. and at the Journal Office of the House of Commons, together with the MSS Copies of the Population Abstract; except in so far as a few of the Remarks herein contained, were deemed improper to be transferred to the Official Copies, as being futile or indecorous.
