Hungarian (Latin) cursive script of the 17th-18th century.

Additions:

Additional texts of religious nature in Hungarian on front pastedown and back pastedown (upside down) by various hands. Fragment of a letter(?) on flyleaf (i)r mentioning 'Ujfalu', 'Rácz Péter', etc.

Ff. 153r-153v: prayer added by a different hand, probably an owner, followed by his name and the date of his inscription (see provenance).

Binding

Brown leather binding, with remains of a pair of leather straps. Boxed. Part of the strap is in a separate envelope within the same box. The fore edge is called back flyleaf (i)r in the digital surrogate.

M. Gaster's label on spine: 'Apocrypha Vet Test Hungarian Szobotniki 1365'.

Provenance and Acquisition

Ownership inscription on f. 153v: 'Daniel Kovats irta 1813dik eztendöben marciusnak elsö negyed...'

Moses Gaster (b. 1856, d. 1939), scholar and rabbi: his manuscript, Cod. G. 1365; purchased by the British Museum from him on 12 April, 1924.
