Fragmentary copy of an untitled translation and commentary by an unnamed author on the Nahj al-balāghahascribed to the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muḥammad, first Imām and fourth of the Righteous Caliphs, ʿAlī ibn Abū Ṭālib.

Defective at beginning and end.

Not dated at end. Datable to the early eighteenth century.

Scribal nastaʿlīq (overlined for Arabic sections) and shikastah āmīz, possibly by multiple hands.

Annotations in margins.

Loose paper wrapper (ledger, fragment of Acquittance Roll, signed I R Barwell, Esquire, Fort William, Calcutta, dated 18 July 1829); watermarked (J Whatman […]); torn, stained, and incomplete.

Poor condition.
