Qur’ān, in Arabic, a copy from Daghistan.
The colophon on f. 277v, which names the scribe as Zayn al-Din and the place of writing as Sabah in Brunei, has been shown to be a later (probably modern fraudulent) addition (Gallop 2017: 120).
Text frames of 2 ruled red lines. Verse (ayah) markers are 6-petalled rosettes, stamped with black ink outlines, and the petals hand-coloured in yellow and red. Surah headings are in red on green or yellow panels with palmettes extended into the margins.
Marginal inscriptions: juz’ are marked with elaborate illuminated panels in the margin, inscribed with the juz' number; half, quarters and eighths of juz' are marked with illuminated round marginal ornaments. Wird occasionally marked (eg. f. 57v). Sajdah are marked with semi-circular ornaments.
Illuminated pages: ff. 1v-2r: decorated frames in red, yellow and green and reserved white, enclosing S. al-Fatihah;

Dimensions: 420 x 320 mm. 277 ff., Russian watermarked with Cyrillic letters BUFSAGP and the date 1795. 'This stands for the bumashnaia uglichskaia fabrika soderzhatelia Aleksandra Grigor’evicha Pereiaslavtseva, the Uglich paper factory of the landlord Aleksandr Grigorevich Pereiaslavtsev. Uglich is a town north of Moscow’ (Christie’s 2002: 89).
11 lines per page, black ink, in a strong, careful hand. Text block 320 x 220 mm. Catchwords (with overlining) on the verso of each folio.
Some small pieces of paper with prayers and notes, and fragments of leaves, are found between pages.
Many old paper repairs (eg. f. 93).
Binding: original brown leather binding with envelope flap, with blind-stamped corner pieces and central medallion and frames, sewn with gut thread along spine. Doublures of brown cloth.
