8 volumes of travel diaries written by Gertrude MacAlpine Woods giving an account of journeys taken with her husband, Roland MacAlpine Woods around East Asia, South-East Asia, the Middle-East, North Africa and Europe during the years 1930-1938.

There are 8 autograph manuscripts by Gertrude MacAlpine Woods comprising of autograph transcripts of letters that she sent to Elizabeth Finch during her travels. Each volume is signed by Gertrude MacAlpine Woods, except for volume 8. Not all entries are dated. Some volumes contain original foliation.

Subjects include: art; architecture; archaeology; observations on local customs and culture; descriptions of wildlife and landscapes; visits to friends and officials; and descriptions of routes taken through various countries.

Volumes contain original photographs by Roland MacAlpine Woods; pencil drawings, watercolour paintings and map illustrations by Gertrude MacAline Woods; as well as, postcards, magazine and newspaper images.
