Menoy i khrad followed by fragments of Afrins and Aogemadaeca
- Scope & Content:
-
The Pazand-Sanskrit version of the Mēnōy ī khrad followed by fragments of Āfrīns and Aogemadaēca
Contents:
(1) The Pazand-Sanskrit version of the Pahlavi Mēnōy ī khrad composed by Naryosangh Dhaval in the12th century. Although it lacks the first folio containing Naryosangh’s introduction, the text itself is complete. A Pahlavi colophon on f. 132r, copied from an older manuscript, names the (presumably original) copyist as Herbad Shahriyar, descended from Naryosangh. This is followed by a Sanskrit colophon giving the date and place of completion of the copy as Nausari, Samvat 1577 or AY 890 (1521), copied on behalf of Bahram son of Pahlan by Mihraban son of Mahyar, grandson of Padam (ff. 1r-132v).
(2) Avestan, Pazand and Sanskrit fragments of Āfrīns and Aogәmadaēca (ff. 133r-148r).
The Sanskrit version appears in alternate sentences in upturned script.
The floral and geometric decorations are a feature of this manuscript.
The text is preceded by an inserted leaf (f. iii) with Samuel Guise’s number 366 and a note, possibly in his hand; another later inserted note (f. i) describes the contents, and is annotated by E.W.West.
