This manuscript contains volumes (juan 卷) 10 and 12 of the New Treatise on Military Efficiency (Ji xiao xin shu 紀效新書) compiled by Qi Jiguang (1528-1588). These two volumes introduce the usage of long spears (qiang 鎗) and staffs (gun 棍). The content includes instructions, mnemonics, and illustrations of manoeuvres.
First title (Yang shi liu he chang qiang fa shi 楊氏六合長鎗法式) written on the recto of the first folio. Another title (Liang yi gun fa 兩儀棍法) written on the recto of the twenty-seventh folio.
Annotation on first folio: Treatise on the military exercises, in manuscript.
