Encyclopaedia of the art of medicine composed by ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Majūsī al-Arrajānī (علي بن العباس المجوسي الأرجاني) for the Būyid king (ملك) ʿAḍud al-Dawlah (عضد الدولة, reg. 949-83), which explains the works other title: The Royal Book (الكتاب الملكي). The text is divided into two books (جزئان), the first dealing with theory and the second with practice. Each book is divided into ten chapters (مقالات), which are further subdivided into parts (أبواب).
Each part is preceded by a table of contents (فهرست: Part One ff. 2r-3v, Part Two f. 182v).
Contents:
- Book One... Ten Chapters on Theory (كتاب الجزء الأول... وهو عشرة مقلات علمية, ff. 2r-180v);
- Book Two... Ten Chapters on Practice (كتاب الجزء الثاني ... وهو عشرة مقالات عملية, ff. 182v-441r).
Book One was completed at Cairo on Friday 20 Dhū al-Qaʿdah 984/8 February 1577, by the Jacobite Christian Yuḥannā ibn ʿAbīr (?) ibn Abī al-Faraj ibn Gabrīāl (?) ibn Faḍl Allāh al-Manfalūṭī (يوحنا بن عبير [؟] بن أبي الفرج بن غبريال [؟] بن فضل الله النصراني المسيحي اليعقوبي المنفلوطي), a native of Ikhmīm, who copied the text for his own use (see colophon Book One, f. 180v, lines 26-27 and 31-32, transcribed below, colophons to Book Two Chapters Six and Seven, ff. 322v, lines 35-36 and 355v, line 35, and his long note at the foot of f. 181r). Book Two was completed on 7 Jumādá II 978/6 November 1570 by Aṣīl al-Dīn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Huwī al-Anṣārī al-Khazrajī (أصيل الدين بن عبد الرحمن الهوي الأنصاري الخزرجي, see colophon Book Two, f. 441r, line 12, transcribed below, and colophons to Book Two chapters Two and Three, ff. 247r, lines 15-16 and 266r, lines 25-27).
