W H Holyoake, a Leicester bookseller, published four cyclostyled editions of the 'Rubaiyyat' of Omar Khayyam between 1885 and 1899. In that year Macmillan acquired the copyright of the 'Rubaiyyat' and charged him with piracy, demanding he submit to them all unsold copies. Holyoake complied but his cause was taken up by the radical George Jacob Holyoake (no relation), first directly with Macmillan and then in pamphlet form.
