Six diplomatic notes (Chi: 照會) issued by Yi Libu (Chi: 伊里布) to Bao Zu (Chi: 胞祖) during 1840 to 1841 regarding the Treaty of Nanking(Chi: 南京條約)which was signed in 1842.
Yi Libu was the Viceroy of Liangjiang (Chi: 兩江總督) from 1839 to 1840, and Bao Zu was the Deputy General of the British Navy (Chi: 英國水師副將); both played an important role in negotiating the Treaty of Nanking at the end of the First Opium War (1839-1842).
The diplomatic note was written in Chinese with seals at the beginning and at the end of the paper. The date of issue was written on the front of the envelope, and both Yi Libu's and Bao Zu's title and name were written at the back of the envelope with same seals on the paper.
Another letter in English is enclosed together with the six notes.
