Music manuscripts, publisher’s proofs, annotated printed scores, correspondence and other papers by and relating to Sir Edward Elgar. The collection was formerly housed at the Elgar Birthplace Museum and comprises items owned by the Elgar Birthplace Trust and the Elgar Foundation. It includes material bequeathed by Elgar to his daughter Carice Elgar Blake and given by her to the Trust.

Appraisal was undertaken in relation to the British Library’s collection policy. Categories of material that were retained by the Elgar Foundation include: 3D objects, furniture and artworks; duplicate printed items without annotations, or which only contain inscriptions; published recordings; scrap books compiled by family members; photographs; concert programmes; some other display items. These remain at the Birthplace Museum, currently managed by the National Trust (and known as ‘The Firs’).
