Maḥbūb al-qulūb - محبوب القلوب
- Scope & Content:
-
This work on morals and manners by Mir Alisher Navoiy is divided into three parts (aqsam):
ff 6r-41v : On the conditions and dealings of all classes of humans, in forty chapters (fusul);
ff 41v-68v : On praiseworthy actions and blameworthy qualities, in ten abwab;
ff 68v-124v : Various maxims and proverbs.
In his biography of Mir Alisher Navoiy, entitled the Makārim al-akhlāq, Khwānd Amīr says that the Maḥbūb al-qulūb had been written in the last days of the author's life. This is confirmed by the conclusion of the work, where Navoiy gives 906 AH (1500-01 CE), the very year in which he died, as the date of composition. It is expressed by the chronogram Khosh.
The text contains an unvan.
The manuscript was copied by Şeyh Nedir, likely in the Ottoman Empire, in 1050 AH (1640-41 CE).
