Tazkira-’i Bughrā Khān - تذكرۀ بغرا خان
- Scope & Content:
-
Biographies of Uvaysī Sufis as dictated to Mollā Tokhta in 1219 AH (1804-5 CE) and composed for Amīr Shujā‘.
In a long preface, the author mentions their efforts to obtain leave from the Order for this work to be written. These were at first in unsuccessful, but later permission was granted for them to have access to the shuyūkh. They eventually provided so much information that the author was forced to epitomize what the shuyūkh told them. They also suggested that the author compose this work in Persian, which they opted not to do (f 8v).
The tazkira is divided into a preface, three maqsādlār, 40 abvāb and a khātimah. This work bears the same title as the well-known romance of Satuq Bughrā Khān ᶜAbd al-Karīm, the first Muslim in Transoxiana, whose divine aid was sought by the author of the current work when permission to compose it was initially withheld.
