The divan of Abu'l-Ghazi Sultan Husayn Bayqara, with a literal Persian translation and explanatory notes by Muhammad Rafi' bin Muhammad Yahya, Munshi al-Mamalik. The translator's preface occupies the first four pages of the text.
After a wordy panegyric on the reigning sovereign, Shah Sultan Husayn Safavi, the translator says that His Majesty had a liking for the Divan-i Ghazeliyat of Sultan Husayn Mirza Bayqara, but, finding himself precluded by the difficulties of the Chagatai language from a full enjoyment of the its beauties, he ordered his servant Muhammad Rafi' to translate them.
The manuscript contains only a selection from the complete Divan. It comprises no more than 144 ghazels, a small portion of those whose opening lines are provided by Mir Alisher Navoiy in his Majalis an-Nafa'is.
The volume is missing one or more leaves at its end. It breaks off after the fourth beyt of the 24th ghazel of yaa'. A literal translation in Persian prose is written in a smaller hand under each line of the text. Marginal notes in a still smaller hand, enclosed in golden lines, are added to passages requiring further explanation.
The present manuscript bears on the first page the seal of Kayka'us Mirza. On the last leaf is a note of acquisition by a member of the nobility, possibly Kayka'us himself, dated 1240 AH (1826 CE). Kayka'us Mirza, one of the numerous sons of Fath Ali Shah, was born 1222 AH (1807 CE) and was governor of Qom for many years.
The manuscript was written in Nastaliq script and contains gold-ruled margins along with two unvans.
