Dīvān-i Ṣakkakī - ديوان سكاكى
- Scope & Content:
-
The lyric poems of Ṣakkākī. Ṣakkākī is mentioned by Navoiy in the Majalis an-Nefais (f 42v) among the poets who lived prior to his era. He appears to have died before Navoiy's stay in Samarqand (870-873 AH/1465-1469 CE). He was a native of Maverannehr and he was frequently praised in Samarqand. Navoiy, however, did not find his poetry to be commensurate with his reputation.
This Divan affords ample evidence that Ṣakkākī lived in Samarqand in the first half of the 9th century AH. One of his qasidat are addressed to Khalil Sultan, who ruled over Samarqand 807-811 AH (1404-1409 CE), on the occasion of the birth of a prince in 810 AH (1407-08 CE). Another is addressed to the famous Shaykh Khwajah Muhammad Parsa, who died in 822 AH (1419-20 CE). There are, moreover, five qasidat in praise of Ulugh Beg Mirza, who was Viceroy of Maverannehr from 814 AH to 850 AH (1411-1446 CE), and four addressed to Arslan Khwajah Terkhan, who is mentioned in the Matla' al-Sa'dayn (824-828 AH/1423-1428 CE) as one of the Amirs of Ulugh Beg, and who appears to have been a special patron of the poet.
There is a considerable lacuna in the body of the manuscript. The first 13 of the qasidat are contained in ff 3-17, the last of which breaks off at the twelfth line. The latter part of an alphabetical series of ghazals is found in ff 18-33, beginning in the middle of the penultimate poems rhyming in sin.
The text was written in Nastaliq hand and features an unvan.
It was copied in Transoxiana, possibly Bukhara, in the early 10th century AH (/6th century CE).
