- Title:
- [Two works by Sıdki]
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains the following two works by Sıdki :
ff 2v-24v : An allegorical mesnevi entitled Risale-yi Hüsn ü Dil. On f 3r, the poem mentions that a Persian ustat (Fattāḥī) had written a work of this title, but that there was no version in Ottoman Turkish. Therefore, he had decided to write on at the suggestion of a friend (yār). According to HOP II, p. 293, this version follows the Persian original much more closely than any of the other adaptations into Ottoman Turkish (for example, those of Ahi, Lami'i, or Vali);
ff 25v-94r : A Divan which gives some information about Sıdki, who cannot be identified with any of the poets making use of this mahlas who are found in extant tezkereler. He was evidentiy a native of Baghdad, judging by certain references in the poems, and was a Bektaşi. The best indications of the dates when he lived are references in the kasideler to his patron Yakup Paşa (f 36v), to Hafız Ahmet Paşa the Grand Vizier (f 42r), and to Murat IV (1623-40 CE; f 38v). The work begins with a kaside, followed by gazeller on f 45r, a terkibibent, a muhammes and rubaiyat (ff 91r-94r). There is a lacuna after f 91.
The manuscript was copied by two different hands, likely in the 17th century CE.
